Vertical Garden
Madrid’s CaixaForum Museum recently added a huge green mural to the entire front wall of the building. It has 15,000 plants of 250 different species. Architects Herzog & de Meuron, collaborated with vertical garden master Patrick Blanc to complete the project.

How high is too high?
Dubai, already on the verge of completing the world’s tallest building, has just unveiled a design for a yet another record breaker. With more than 200 floors, “The Nakheel Tower” will scale the length of 10 football fields, or THREE Chrysler Buildings. Which begs the question: Will they be using construction workers or astronauts to complete this structure?

Brooklyn Museum is “LEEDING” the way
The Brooklyn Children’s Museum is marked as the first green museum in New York City. In addition to receiving a LEED certification, they’ve added programs that specifically promote sustainability and green living.

Grand Army Plaza
Pentagram’s proposal (Social Platform for Living, Arts, and Theater) for the “Reinventing Grand Army Plaza” competition has been selected as one of the top proposals for the ambitious project. The leading prospectus, along with the other 29 others, are on view in a free public exhibition presented by the Design Trust in the center of Grand Army Plaza thru October 13th.

A Progressive Haven
San Francisco is moving forward in a big way. With the opening of the natural science museum this month, Mayor Gavin Newsom announced another HUGE sustainable project. The plan is to transform the city’s Civic Center into a sustainable resource district. (more…)

The Architecture of Type

Now Open to the Public!
The Museum of Arts and Design had its grand opening this weekend at its new dig. The new building was designed by Allied Works Architecture, led by Brad Cloepfil.
