World Water Day

Today is World Water Day. One in eight people worldwide don’t have access to clean drinking water. Because of this nearly 3.6 million people die of water related diseases every year. In honor of this day we’ve included a very interesting virtual water project developed by designer Timm Kekeritz that highlights the water footprint of certain commodities.
For more on his project you know what to do.

The water footprint of a person, company or nation is defined as the total volume of freshwater that is used to produce the commodities, goods and services consumed by the person, company or nation. The idea of the water footprint is quite similar to the ecological footprint, but focussing on the use of water.
